On the day of your appointment:
- Wearing masks is strongly recommended. Masks are not mandatory, but we do prefer that anyone entering the clinic wear a surgical mask. If you do not own a surgical mask, we can provide you with one, or you can purchase one at any retail outlet.
- Please arrive at your scheduled appointment time. This reduces the number of people in the waiting room. If you arrive early, you will be asked to wait until your appointment time to check in.
- Please come to your appointment alone. Our office gets very busy, and often times there aren’t enough chairs to accommodate family members. If you require assistance, please let the office know, so we can accommodate them.
- Please inform us of any COVID-19 symptoms. If you have displayed any COVID-19 related symptoms or have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, pink eye, have recently travelled outside the province or country, or have been tested or treated for COVID-19, please inform us. We may postpone your appointment as a precaution to keep our community safe.
- Please bring the following:
- Valid health card
- List of Medications
- Eye Drop Prescription
- Sunglasses (your eyes may be sensitive from the dilating eye drops)
- Snack (if diabetic)
- For Quebec Patients: Please bring your valid RAMQ card. If you live in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, we request you sign an Out of Province claim form that we can put on file. Once completed, we can bill on your behalf. For all other Quebec patients, you must pay at the end of your appointment, and we will provide you with an Out of Province form that you can submit for reimbursement.
- Please refrain from using any scented products. Our office is a fragrance-free area.
- Reminder that we do NOT provide prescription for glasses. Please book an appointment with your optometrist instead.
- All appointments are consultations only; you will not have surgery at this appointment. Surgical procedures, if needed, will be performed at a later date.
- All appointments are 2–3 hours on average. Please plan accordingly.
What your appointment will look like:
- You will be asked to fill out a Medical Intake Form with various questions related to current and previous medical conditions.
- Multiple eye measurements and diagnostic tests will be taken throughout the appointment.
- We provide an optional test called OPTOS which is recommended by all doctors in the clinic. This test gives doctors the ability to capture an ultrawide image of the back of your eye and is useful in maintaining good retinal health via early detection and monitoring of retinal disorders. This test is not covered under any provincial plan but can be covered under some private plans.
- You will see the doctor after all required measurements are taken. They will determine the necessary actions, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
*If you are unable to attend the appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible to reschedule. We can be reached at (613) 596-0300 or at general@icarecentre.org
